Summer Camp
Paradise Sertoma has actively supported the camp experience for deaf and hard of hearing children for many years. Camp provides support for learning new skills and offers an invaluable sense of belonging.
Historically, we have supported various camps for deaf and hard of hearing children. We sponsored sign language camps for hearing impaired children and their siblings. We established and sponsored our own sign language camp for hearing impaired children, their siblings, and other signing children.
Paradise Sertoma wholeheartedly believes that deaf children need the same opportunities that other children have; the cherished memories of childhood summer camp. To this end Paradise Sertoma has supported a number of camping experiences.
We sponsored our own camp for deaf children and their siblings a number of years, as well as supporting other camps for deaf kids. Throughout recent years, Paradise Sertoma has sent over 250 kids to various deaf camps in California and Nevada.
Currently, we are a sponsor of Deaf Kids Kamp, which is designed for deaf children who use sign language as their primary form of communication. For many of them, it represents the first time in their lives where they are in the majority.
Camping provides such a tremendous opportunity for the child to be independent, build confidence, and master tasks that hearing children take for granted.
